China prepares Muslim DNS testing, Pakistan quiet.

Defence News: China has begun acquiring DNA testing equipment worth billions, for mass analysis of DNA samples from largely Muslim region of Xinjiang. Xinjiang is already facing a security crackdown by China. Meanwhile, the self appointed “Thekedar” of world Muslims, Pakistan has just kept it’s lips sealed shut. Not a voice has been heard from across the border.

Human Rights activists have been alarmed with their findings and evidence of DNA sampling equipment being purchased by Chinese authorities to screen the region of Xinjiang. The Associated Press has confirmed with the Police in western China’s Xinjiang region that they are in the process of purchasing at least $8.7 million in equipment to analyze DNA samples. Observers from Human Rights Watch said they’ve seen evidence of almost $3 million in additional purchases over and above this procurement.

China had started collecting DNA profiles in 1989, China has since collected the unique genetic information on  40 million people or more. Now this makes it the world’s largest DNA database, according to a study last year by forensic researchers at the China’s “Ministry of Public Security”. China does not offer legal protection to guard people’s privacy and prevent their genetic information from being misused, said Helen Wallace, founder of the British group GeneWatch.

Xinjiang has seen its share of violence, recently 8 people which includes assailants were killed in February knife attack in pishan county bordering Pakistan. In Sheche County, suppliers were inquired about voiceprint collection systems and 3-D portrait systems, according to a security official Yin, who declined to give further details.

“Xinjiang is already an oppressive region with a high level of surveillance,” said Human Rights Watch researcher Maya Wang. “To collect even more information on a mass scale unrelated to criminal investigation opens the door for an even greater level of surveillance and control.”

China continues to crack down on Muslim dominated areas, Pakistan chooses to keep quiet. Pakistan which has been known to raise voices for every thing related to Muslims (or rather anything be somehow related to Muslims, especially India) is not saying anything, but why? Simply because China is a great friend, they can do anything, they may eat beef, they may crack down on Muslims, its OK with Pakistan. Because their friendship is “taller than the mountains, deeper than the seas”. Or maybe it is they just bought half of Pakistan, CPEC & Baluchistan’s resources by just bribing their leaders enough. Wonder if we can pay them enough to vacate PoK, I’m sure there is a price that Pakistan will agree at.

There is no doubt China’s Human rights record is going from bad to worse and every country should raise the issues of human rights violation in China.
