Rumors on Agni-5s range go viral

Defence News: Indian and Chinese defence experts have commented on Agni-5’s range, claiming that India has been under-stating it’s strike range. The claimed 5000 KM range is an eyewash according to many. India has disclosed the range of the deadly and precise missile but DRDO did not make an immediate statement after it’s test. They presented the range with a delay and that may have sparked the rumor mill. Although I would want it to be true, I would still want the enemy to believe that it’s just 5000 KM.

Chinese experts have claimed a range tag of 8000 KMs on the missile. They say that India deliberately understated the missile range to avoid hot debates and concerns from countries that would fall under this circle, and that circle would be large. India being a non signatory to various treaties and an aspirant of NSG, does not want to upset anybody, they think. no superpower would be comfortable with one more country capable of taking aim at them. At least not officially. Although western countries understand that India is a responsible power and our tests hardly invoke negative reactions from them, India did not consider it to be wise to say ” Hey, we got an arrow that can reach you”.

Agni weighs 50 tons and is 17.5 meters long, dia of 2 meters. Missiles of upt o 12000 kms class like trident are around 59 tons, 13.5 meters long with 2.1 meters dia. So it can be said that with similar configuration and fuel “maybe” Agni 5 can strike 8000 kms. If it does (and it should) this will invite world attention, if not outrage about India carrying an ace up it’s sleeve. It’s ironic that the same countries are armed to the teeth with missiles that can hit anywhere in the world. It’s only natural that India keeps the range understated. But hey that’s just rumor talk, remember?
