The encounter lasted for around 45 minutes after which CRPF was able to end the operation to a favorable end. The motive of the terrorist seemed to be suicidal attack. They wanted to kill as many Indian security personnel as they could. CRPF Director General RR Bhatnagar praised the soldiers for their excellent and instantaneous action. He said, “I congratulate CRPF officers and jawans for their bravery, outstanding work and this big victory. They not only killed the terrorists but also ensured that no harm was done to the camp or the jawans.” he continued by saying;”They were prepared for a long-drawn battle” A police official said “All four of them were killed in the retaliatory firing and the suicide attack was foiled”

A search operation is under way and the areas has been sealed off to check for any more terrorists that might be hiding for a secondary objective. 4 Ak-47, grenades of different type were found from the killed terrorists. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Shesh Paul Vaid  broke the news early morning on a tweet, “45 Bn @crpfindia/@JmuKmrPolice killed 4 terrorists at Sumbal #Bandipore who were attempting suicidal attack on CRPF camp. #JaiHind.”

This camp is the same CRPF camp for 45th battalion which Chetan Kumar Cheeta was heading. Chetan Kumar Cheeta survived nine bullet injuries while fighting terrorists in Bandipora in 2016. This attack comes as part of the waves of attack from cross border insurgents, just 2 days ago terrorists had attacked an army convoy near Munda toll in Qazigund area of Kulgam. This is when two soldiers were martyred and 4 injured as reported earlier.
